The Chouriço Festival has a long tradition in the small village of Querença near Loulé. In honor of St. Luis, the patron saint of animals, the “Festa das Chouriças” is organized.
Pigs breeders pray to St. Luis and ask him for health for the animals. As a thank you for a good and healthy year, the animals are slaughtered in January and processed to delicious chorizo sausage.
In addition to the homemade sausages, the Chouriço Festival hosts a procession and a cozy street party with local traders.
The festival takes place every year in January and is the first of many interesting festivals along the Algarve.
